Please note we can no longer sell TSO Tags in Scotland for the purpose of BVD Testing. See below for full details *

The Moletag 2 TSO sampler takes a fast and clean collection of a tissue sample to test for DNA and BVD. No longer will farmers need to swab mouths, use messy blood cards or add extra ear tags just to collect DNA.

The Moletag 2 Tissue Sampler is easy to load and use – with one click it’s done. The sample is collected from the cattle’s ear in a vial which is then matched to the animal’s EID or VID tag.

*For the purposes of meeting the sampling requirements under articles 9 and 10 of the BVD Order tissue samples may only be taken from an ear tag in accordance with article 14. Article 14 sets out that an ear tag sample may be extracted from either an official ear tag or from a management tag. If a tissue sample is taken by means application of a management tag, it may not be removed except where the information on it has become illegible, doing so is necessary to safeguard the welfare of the animal or approval is given by the Scottish Ministers (article 15).

As such, in order to take a tissue sample for the purposes of BVD testing in accordance with the BVD Order, the sampler must leave a tag attached to the animal’s ear. With this being so, a TSO sampler cannot be used for the purposes of the BVD Order.
